According to OSHA’s new publication – “Resource for Development and Delivery of Training to Workers”, there are more than 100 current OSHA standards that include training requirements. Your health and safety program should and probably does include training, but do you know if it covers all of the training requirements included in standards applicable to your business? To help you determine that, we’ve compiled a list of 59 OSHA standard subparts from General Industry, Construction, Agriculture, Federal Employee Programs and Maritime which contain requirements for training.
Topical requirements are not the only thing to be aware of when thinking about safety training compliance. OSHA states there are four characteristics that distinguish the best training programs: accuracy, credibility, clarity, and practicality.
Training programs should be delivered by health and safety professionals who have experience training adults, working in the occupational health and safety field, and have the ability to prepare training content and materials that are accurate and up to date. Materials should be readable and clear, and training should be delivered in a format that is understandable to all participants. Special accommodations must be made for those participants who are not fluent in English and/or have low literacy. Additionally, training should contain information that is practical and able to be applied in the workplace of the participants.
