Transitioning to Civilian Work as a Veteran

Veterans historically have had a higher than average unemployment rate. The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) has helped reduce that number to 4.3%, and the national unemployment rate is 4.9%. Through TAP, service members transitioning out of the military are required to complete Transition GPS (goals, plans, success), which is a five-day workshop with additional days of optional training.  The workshop includes mock interviews, job search practice, and resume writing, among other topics.

In a poll taken by G.I.Jobs, the biggest challenge Veterans face when they leave the military is finding an employer that wants to hire veterans.  In their list of 25 Hot Jobs for Veterans in 2016, nine of those jobs require OSHA training.
