DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME IS HERE!!

DID YOU REMEMBER TO CHANGE

THE BATTERIES IN ALL YOUR

SMOKE ALARMS AND

CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS?

CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY

Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas created when fuels (such as gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil, and methane) burn incompletely.

*****The Silent Killer*****

FACT:  A person can be poisoned by a small amount of CO over a longer period of time OR by a large amount of CO over a shorter amount of time

FACT:  There were a total of 740 carbon monoxide fatalities between 1999 – 2010.  39 of those fatalities occurred in 2010!

FACT:  80% (591) of the 740 fatalities between 1999 – 2010 were associated with  generators!  And 493 of those fatalities occurred between 2005 and 2010!

SMOKE ALARM SAFETY

When there is a fire SMOKE spreads fast!  A “working” smoke alarm gives you early warning so you can get out quickly!

INSTALL smoke alarms outside every bedroom on every level, including the basement.

INTERCONNECT smoke alarms so that when one sounds all the smoke alarms sound.

IONIZATION AND PHOTOELECTRIC smoke alarms respond to flames AND smoke.  Get a combination alarm.

REPLACE BATTERIES at least once a year.

REPLACE ALARMS at 10 years old or sooner as needed.

FIRE WARNING EQUIPMENT is available for the hard of hearing too!!

*FACT:  About 2/3rds of home fire deaths happen in homes with no smoke alarms or no “working” smoke alarms.

*FACT:  “Working” smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in reported home fires in HALF!!!!
