Course Description:

UASC-HS-063-C 1This class familiarizes the student with various types of common machinery and their related safety standards, and the control of hazardous energy sources (lockout/tagout). The course presents an approach to machinery inspection that enables participants to recognize hazards and to provide options to achieve abatement, including those for mechanical motions and actions created by points of operation and other machinery processes. Includes practice on identifying and mitigating machinery hazards.

  • Basic concepts, principles and methods of machine guarding
  • Common causes of machine incidents and how to avoid them
  • Which areas should be guarded to provide adequate worker protection
  • Best practices – how to apply basic guarding principles when specific issues aren’t covered in the regulation
  • Methods of machine safeguarding and general requirements for all machines
  • Guards (Fixed, Interlocked, Adjustable, Self-Adjusting)
  • Devices (Presence Sensing, Pullback, Restraint, Safety Controls, Gates)
  • Potential Feeding and Ejection Methods to Improve Safety for the Operator

Who Should Attend:

All machine operators that need assistance in identifying hazards associated with equipment as well as all personnel that occasionally work with or around specialized machinery that require machine guards of various types.
