Another Mass Shooting in California

Over the past year, it seems like there was a mass shooting every day. Well, that’s because there almost has been.

According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, there have been over 300 mass shooting incidents since October 2017. Wednesday night’s shooting, which left 13 people dead, marks the 307th mass shooting in the past year.

Thousand Oaks Tragedy

The mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, California happened on November 7, 2018 at The Borderline Bar & Grille. Students from Pepperdine University and Cal Lutheran University were popular among the crowd, as it was “College Country Night.” Some of the people who survived the shooting also survived the Route 91 music festival in Las Vegas last year. The victims include 11 civilians, 1 deputy officer and the gunman. The shooting was random. Authorities confirmed that the shooter, a former marine, had no known motive.

Mass Shootings

Unfortunately, it seems mass shootings, which are considered as 4 or more individuals being shot or killed in the same general time and location, are becoming more common. They account for a small fraction of the county’s gun deaths, but are random and terrifying. Victims of mass shootings are typically not targeted. Sadly, many are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
