Local Woman-Owned Business Making an Impact on Workplace Safety

United Alliance Services Corporation of E. Wareham, MA is a certified woman-owned small  business (WBE) whose focus is workplace safety training and consulting.  United Alliance Services is owned and operated by Valerie Wakefield Bianco of West Wareham, MA.  Valerie’s company has been incorporated since 2010 and started as a small safety consulting from 2002.  “There was such a demand for workplace safety compliance on the South Shore of Boston that I brought my husband, Marc Bianco, a career safety professional and Naval Reserve Officer, on board in 2010 and the company has really taken off!”

Being a native of Wareham and coming from a family that has been a part of the commerce of Wareham, Valerie’s commitment to the community continues to expand.  One of the most popular programs Valerie runs is the internship with the Mass. Maritime Academy cadets.  United Alliance Services offers future safety professionals at Mass Maritime Academy an opportunity at first-hand experience in their field of study. Marketing opportunities are also offered to students of all levels who are considering a career in business and marketing.

This past September United Alliance Services was awarded a contract to instruct the 400 freshmen cadets at Mass. Maritime in occupational safety and health training.  Many of the cadets chose to go beyond the initial semester long classroom instruction to become certified through a supplemental course and obtained their official OSHA Outreach training certifications.

Success with safety training at the cadet level at Mass. Maritime has opened the door to provide safety training courses with the Continuing Education Department of Mass. Maritime.  Currently United Alliance Services is offering 10 and 30 hour OSHA Outreach training in the construction industry, general industry and the maritime industry.

Course schedules can be found at www.unitedallianceservices.com or at www.maritime.edu

From a very young age, Valerie was taught by her father, Carl Wakefield, the importance of safety through his role in owning local businesses and as the Health Agent with the Town of Wareham for over 20 years.  “Part of our mission at United Alliance Services is to continue educating our next generation and making a positive impact on our local communities.”

Recently United Alliance Services has formed a partnership with the Adult Education department at Upper Cape Cod Technical School.  The partnership was created to help educate and certify employers and employees in the local communities on OSHA and EPA Emergency Response Standards (HAZWOPER) and compliance.  Other adult education courses offered by United Alliance Services at Upper Cape Tech include: a free OSHA seminar for small businesses, a healthcare provider course, MA Lead RRP course, workplace violence and forklift training.  More information can be found at www.unitedallianceservices.com or www.uppercapetech.cc .

United Alliance Services Corporation also has a focus on non-profit organizations and is committed to assisting private companies who struggle with the affordability of a solid workplace safety program by introducing them to the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accident’s Grant Opportunity.  Through this Grant Program companies can capture up to $25,000 for workplace safety training and education.  United Alliance Services recently provided High Point Treatment Center of New Bedford with a series of Workplace Violence training for their management team and employees; impacting over 900 employees through the use of funds from the DIA’s Grant Program.

Other clients of United Alliance Services include UMass Dartmouth, A.D. Makepeace of Wareham, and Marian Heath Greeting Cards, also of Wareham.  Most recently, United Alliance Services has begun talks with the Southcoast Hospital Group and hopes to form a partnership on health and safety services within their network.

“Providing Professional Solutions to Workplace Safety” is the mission of United Alliance Services.  If your company would like a consultation to review its health and safety plan or to create one, or if you’re looking for an OSHA 10/30 hour course, CPR course, or a Lead RRP course, please send your request to: safetysolutions@unitedallianceservices or call 877.399.1698.
