United Alliance Services Presents OSHA Lab Safety and GHS at BEGO Lab Day East 2015

On September 19, 2015 United Alliance Services will be presenting the first clinic of the day , “OSHA Lab Safety and GHS Made Simple!” at the LMT Lab Day East 2015 in Atlantic City, NJ.  Megan Savage, Consultant/Instructor will be teaching the class. In this one hour course she will cover regulatory and risk management issues, preventing workplace hazards and review the Global Harmonization System standards and requirements, all geared towards laboratory safety requirements.

The OSHA Lab Safety and GHS Made Simple course is approved for continuing education credits. The cost for the class is $55 in advance and $65 at the door. Please call 800-342-2346 to register for the class or for more information.

In a laboratory setting there are many hazards to be aware of, including air contaminants, machinery and electrical, and bloodborne pathogens.  Additionally, chemicals are involved a large portion of processes and job tasks in a lab. OSHA has estimated that more than 32 million workers are exposed to 650,000 hazardous chemical products in more than 3 million American workplaces. Understanding the relatively new Global Harmonization System standards is an essential part of staying safe in a laboratory setting.

“My goal for this is course is for everyone to leave with a good understanding of the labeling system for GHS, and basic lab safety awareness and precautions. Trust me when I say I do my best to deliver all the most pertinent information in an entertaining manner,” said Megan.

Megan Savage has extensive experience as a workplace safety educator. She has taught at Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Massasoit Community College, as well as conducting private classes for United Alliance Services’ health care, dental and general industry clients. Megan is a certified OSHA 501 General Industry Outreach Instructor.  In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she develops health and safety plans, conducts OSHA compliance safety audits, and works with clients to identify and implement corrective actions.
