We’ve got you covered from now until August for all of your safety training and events. As the weather heats up work can get busy, and planning time to dedicate to safety activities and initiatives can be hard.

So, we’ve put together a list of courses, conferences, tool box talk ideas, and safety stand-downs that will get you through the hazy crazy days of summer.

May 2018 Workplace Safety Events & Courses

OSHA 10 Hour Construction, April 30-May 1, 2018 (UASC- Wareham, MA)

OSHA 10 Hour Construction certification is mandatory for all workers on all municipal and state construction projects in Massachusetts, as well as other states. Don’t limit yourself by not having this vital OSHA certification. The OSHA 10 Construction Outreach course is a 2-day course that covers:  intro to OSHA, the focus four hazards, trenching and excavating, material handling, scaffolds, personal protective equipment (PPE), among other topics. OSHA 30 Hour Construction, April 30- May 3, 2018 (UASC- Wareham, MA)

General contractors, foremen and construction health and safety personnel- ensure the safety of your workers and reduce workers compensation claims by completing your OSHA 30 Hour Construction certification. This four day course will cover the OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Construction standards in depth, including the focus four hazards. Attendees will learn about health and safety programs. Upon completion of this course, attendees will receive their OSHA 30 Construction certification.

National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls In Construction, May 7-11, 2018

Take this opportunity to create awareness of fall hazards in your organization. OSHA has many available materials and even events that you can attend. The safety stand-down will help promote a safer workplace and educate your workers on fall prevention.

2nd International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health, May 8-11 (Bethesda, MD)

The theme of this year’s symposium is Work & Well-Being: How Safer, Heathier Work can Enhance Well-Being. The week will include keynote speakers, presentations from leaders in the industry, and informal workshops. This event is sponsored by NIOSH and will be held on the campus of the National Institutes of Health. Register here.

40 Hour Hazwoper & Annual 8-Hour Refresher, May 14-18, 2018 (UASC-Wareham, MA)

We are offering both the 40 Hour Hazwoper and 8 Hour Annual Refresher this week, so send your new hires and get your refresher done all in one fell-swoop! The Hazwoper standard applies to five groups of employers and their employees. If you workers are exposed or potentially could be exposed to hazardous substances, and could be involved in a clean-up operation, they should have their Hazwoper certification. OSHA 10 Hour General Industry, May 21-22, 2018 ( UASC-Wareham, MA)

Do you work in the manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, or janitorial industry? Do your workers know how to keep themselves safe from blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, strains and injuries? Employers want safe workers, and are looking to hire OSHA certified professionals. ASSE Safety 2018, June 3-6 (San Antonio, Texas)

Gather with your safety professional peers to learn about the latest trends and technology in the safety world. This is a three-day conference with seminars and keynote speakers, and two days of vendor exhibitions. Following the conference, there are another three days of courses which are eligible for CEUs. July 2018 Workplace Safety Events & Courses

Water. Rest. Shade. Keep Workers Safe in the Heat, July Safety Initiative

Mid-summer make a point to remind everyone about heat stress illness and injuries with informative tool box talks and safety initiatives. Though your permanent workers may think they have acclimated to working in the heat and gotten their battle rhythm of work, water, rest & shade down, don’t let them become complacent. Also, newcomers will be starting fresh. Changes in work tasks and environment are another concern to be aware of as your workers transition to new jobsites through the summer. 40 Hour Hazwoper & Annual 8-Hour Refresher, July 9-13, 2018 (UASC-Wareham, MA)

24 Hour Fall Protection –EM 385 1-1, July 16-18, 2018 (UASC- Wareham, MA)

This in-depth Fall Protection – 24 Hour EM 385 training course is designed for those in a leadership position who must also serve as the competent person and supervise other contractors and employees working at an elevated level.

Attendees will learn practical solutions to difficult fall protection problems using appropriate tools and equipment. Any fall protection equipment that is required will be demonstrated during class; however, students can bring their own personal fall equipment to class for both demonstration and use.

Participants will be required participate in Personal Fall Arrest Systems training (hands-on exercises), which may include: inspection procedures, donning procedures, fit test, selection, application and care of equipment. Safe & Sound Week, August 13-19, 2018 Safe & Sound week is an OSHA initiative to bring health and safety programs to the forefront and educate on the importance of including key components in those programs: management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to hazard identification and correction in your workplace. This is a great opportunity to use the OSHA materials for toolbox talks and meetings with stakeholders to support your own health and safety program initiative at your workplace.
