In 2015 there are a couple of significant changes coming to the OSHA reporting requirements. Covered employers will still be required to report work-related deaths within 8 hours, and as of January 1 employers must report all instances of employee in-patient hospitalizations, amputations and losses of an eye within 24 hours of finding out about the incident.
Employers can report these incidents by calling the nearest area OSHA office during normal business hours, or call the 24-hour OSHA hotline at 1-800-321-OSHA, or they can report online at www.osha.gov/report_online.
“OSHA will now receive crucial reports of fatalities and severe work-related injuries and illnesses that will significantly enhance the agency’s ability to target our resources to save lives and prevent further injury and illness. This new data will enable the agency to identify the workplaces where workers are at the greatest risk and target our compliance assistance and enforcement resources accordingly.”
— Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, Dr. David Michaels
OSHA will be taking to Twitter on December 11 from 1 pm to 2 pm EST to answer any questions regarding the new reporting requirements. To join the conversation and ask OSHA your specific questions use the hashtag #Reporting2015.
