On April 28, 2014 OSHA regional office staff gathered on the steps of the capitol building in Boston, Mass. where the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health (MassCOSH), AFL-CIO and Greater Boston Labor Council organized a worker memorial ceremony during which victims’ families and the AFL-CIO presented.  Also, a report entitled “Dying for Work in Massachusetts” was released.  The report was a joint effort between Massachusetts AFL-CIO and MassCOSH which tabulates the loss of life and injuries from workplace accidents in Massachusetts in 2013.

In New York City today they will be holding a memorial at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 460 Fifth Avenue between 50th and 52st streets. At 2:45pm there will be a Hardhat Procession into the cathedral, the memorial service begins at 3:00pm. The names of construction workers killed on the job in New York City in the past year will be read by OSHA’s Manhattan area office Director Kay Gee and Labor Liaison Laura Kenney.

While many memorial services and celebrations took place yesterday on the official date of Workers Memorial Day (as proclaimed by President Barack Obama); more services will take place throughout the week. OSHA.gov has a complete list of events by region here.
